Dissatisfied with her disconnected life, Jo takes a trip to the storied French district of Montmartre. There, she falls for Toussaint, a tour guide with a penchant for poetry, magic and romance. As they grow closer, culture, art and love intertwine, reconnecting Jo to her long-lost passion for life.

Live 2001 recording at the Bastille opera in Paris in a production for l'Opéra de Paris by Gilbert Deflo. High praise was given to the historical costumes by William Orlando, the minimal décor, the sophisticated lighting as well as the musical excellence of the performers. It was also due to the charisma of Renée Fleming; she confessed in an interview, "I think Manon is my favorite role. I love French music, it is so elegant and delicate stylistically. It has both dramatic and lyrical elements." Marcelo Alvarez was thought brilliant in the role of the Chevalier des Grieux, and among the other artists were Jean-Luc Chaignaud as Lescaut, Alain Vernhes as the Comte des Grieux and Michel Sénéchal as Guillot de Morfontaine. The choir and orchestra of l'Opéra de Paris were conducted by Jesús López-Cobos.

Manon Donato est une jeune femme de 27 ans bien de son temps et solidement ancrée dans la culture nord-américaine. Elle travaille au CLSC Plamondon, dans le quartier Côte-des-Neiges à Montréal, comme préposée à l'accueil. Elle prend très à coeur ce travail qui la met en contact avec une clientèle cosmopolite. Juliette Labelle, la mère de Manon, une femme romantique qui travaille à la cafétéria du CLSC, adore les potins de vedettes et se fait parfois tireuse de cartes.

Le propriétaire d'une modeste galerie de peinture parisienne (Paul Frankeur) se trouve impliqué dans une affaire de faux tableaux. A l'escroquerie va s'ajouter un meurtre... Ce polar à la française des années 1950 est également connu sous le titre "Reproduction interdite". Annie Girardot y interprète l'un de ses premiers rôles. This turned out to be a truly prophetic statement since none of Puccini’s other world successes were received on their first nights as rapturously as Manon Lescaut. The popularity of Puccini’s great masterpiece has never waned and the highly acclaimed Götz Friedrich production at Covent Garden was hailed as an operatic milestone. Two of the world’s leading stars--Kiri Te Kanawa and Placido Domingo--head a strong cast conducted by the brilliant Italian conductor Giuseppe Sinopoli.

Manon escapes with the young nobleman Des Grieux, then becomes a high-class courtesan and finally forced to exile to America.
